About Katia

Katia was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, and moved to the U.S. at the age of nine. As a 1.5 generation immigrant, she has embraced many aspects of American culture and language while maintaining strong ties to her heritage and country of birth. Katia's immigrant experience has deeply influenced her educational and career paths. She earned her bachelor degree from California State University San Marcos and is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at Western New Mexico University. Before coming to the District in 2023, Katia spent five years working in group homes, where she discovered her passion for helping people. Since then, She has been dedicated to social services, with the goal of equipping communities with the skills and resources they need to advocate for themselves and lead fulfilling, honorable lives. Her goal is to become a licensed clinical social worker, where she can advocate for, and support underserved and underrepresented communities.
